FINAL UPDATE - ROOM 18 - Miss A

Hello to you all again for one last time.

I have completed my final week of placement in Room 18. Six weeks have gone by unbelievably fast. It has been an amazing few weeks with lots of learning and busy routines of swimming and dancing. Here are some of the lessons from the week. In Mathematics we have been working on measurement focusing on area and volume.  Here are some photos from our mathematics lesson.

In Science, we have continued learning about light. Last week we learnt all about transparent, translucent and opaque materials. We did an experiment testing different object with and without a light source to see if they were transparent, translucent or opaque objects. The students were amazed at some of the results especially those where their hypothesis was different to the result of the experiment. Here are some photos from our science lesson.

My time at Wattle Grove Primary School has been wonderful. I would like to thank all the students and Mr. Petch for welcoming me into their class.

REMEMBRANCE DAY ASSEMBLY

We had our class assembly along with Room 12 on Friday 9^th November on the important theme of ‘Remembrance Day.’ All students put a lot of effort into rehearsing and memorising their lines and most importantly, understanding the solemn occasion.  Here is a short video of our assembly.

Thank you to everyone who came along to watch our assembly. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did performing it for you all. A very special thank you Mrs Stanley who worked very hard to make all the poppies we used for our display set-up on the day.

It was a big morning with a lot of achievements recognised with various certificates and awards.

Congratulations to these students for receiving a merit certificate. Your hard work and dedication doesn’t go unnoticed. Keep up the great work.

Another for Suhaila- well done on being the Values Award recipient for Room 18.

Congratulations to Steffani on being awarded the Science Award for her fantastic Super Scientist presentation on Steel.

It didn’t stop there, Room 18 also took out many Literacy Pro awards for our amazing reading. It is wonderful to see the reading that is being achieved in our room. Well done to all our Bronze and Silver award recipients.  Kaitlin achieved her Gold Certificate – a wonderful effort! Special mention to Declan who received the Platinum Award which is an amazing achievement (and the first in our class.) I know this was one of Declan’s goals and it’s great to see him achieve his goal. Never stop reading!

We also had students who were participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition earlier this year receive certificate for their involvement. Well done to Jai for receiving a Distinction in the competition. We are very proud of him.  Congratulations everyone and continue the wonderful work.

We also run a poppy stall at our assembly and raised money for the RSLWA.  Thank you so much to everyone who supported the stall and purchased a poppy. All money raised will be donated to the RSLWA.

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN ROOM 18?

Hello to Room 18 Parents/families.

I am halfway through my teaching placement in Room 18. Three weeks have flown by and we have been very busy learning a lot of new knowledge in amidst of all the routines of dancing, assembly rehearsals and soon to be swimming (which is happening in Week 7 and 8 for us.)

It has been amazing to see the students working hard to achieve their very best in all learning areas. All of the students have been working hard on their assembly lines and our song. We are ready for the big day… tomorrow. We look forward to showing you all what we have been doing and it will surely be one to remember.

Last week for Big Write, the students had to write a persuasive text about why schools should reduce their energy use to reduce climate change. There were a lot of fantastic persuasive arguments using VCOP. I was impressed with the very funny puns in their writing.

In Science, we have been learning all about the big topic of ‘light’ focusing primarily on reflection and refraction. Students conducted experiments on how light refracts in a glass of water with a spoon in it and were able to draw a ray diagram to show what happened. We have also learned about how our eyes enable us to see different objects every day and students were able to draw ray diagrams to represent the direction of light from the light, to the object. We have learnt a special chant to help us remember the learning involved.  Here is what some of our students thought about it.

“In Science, we have been learning how a light source goes onto an object and then reflects off it in a straight line to the observer (person’s) eye. We have learnt about all the different lights sources such as sun, torch and fire. We have also learnt a chant that helps us with this. It was good learning the words and actions for this chant. For example, our light source (sun) travels in a straight line to the object (table) and then reflects off the object (table) in a straight line to our eyes.” -  Makayla

“In Science, we have been learning a chant for how light travels from the light source to the object and this is how it goes: Our light source (anything could be a torch, the sun etc.) travels in a straight line to the object and reflects in a straight line to the observer’s eyes.” -  George

ASSEMBLY

Just a reminder to everyone that our assembly is this Friday, 9th November. All children have been asked to wear Red and Black on the day and bring their school uniform in a bag, ready to get changed after the assembly. I hope to see you all there. Thank you.

SPRING FLOWERPOT COMPETITION

Well done to the children of  Room 18 who were the overall champions of the first ever, Wattle Grove PS Spring Flowerpot Competition. We now have a voucher to spend at Dawson's Garden World in Forrestfield, which is very exciting indeed. 

MEET MISS ABDI

Hello parents of Room 18. My name is Sahra Abdi and I am completing my Graduate Diploma in Primary Education at Edith Cowan University. I feel very fortunate to be spending this term in your child’s classroom at Wattle Grove Primary as a Pre-Service Teacher. Over the next few weeks, I will be involved in preparing and delivering lessons as well as the associated assessment and evaluation processes under the guidance of Mr Petch. I previously studied Commerce and have been fortunate enough to work in education from tertiary to early childhood . I am really looking forward to the next few weeks and hope to meet you soon. YEAR LEVEL CHALLENGE

Congratulations to the all of the children who recently excelled in Term 3's Year Level Challenge. We had a couple of children who were the 'Most Improved' across the Year 5 cohort, followed by a large group in the 'Top 5' category and of course, the children who managed to obtain 100%. Well done to all of the children who put in their very best effort. It won't be too long before the Term 4 Year Level Challenge so give this term you very best.
